Exposing young children to art museums and immersive art experiences is an incredibly valuable part of their education! These experiences teach them to observe, question, imagine, and interpret the world in ways that go beyond a traditional classroom.
The Los Angeles’ Hospital of Emotions exhibit was meaningful because it invited children to see how artists can transform spaces and use color, sound, movement, and storytelling to communicate ideas and emotions. With more than 70 artists creating installations around emotions such as joy, hope, fear, sadness, and resilience, the exhibit gives children an opportunity to explore creativity while also developing empathy, emotional awareness, and an appreciation for different perspectives.
Children are allowed to wander around the rooms at their own speed, get their hospital cards “stamped” on each floor, and get to experience the different types of emotions in the eyes of a particular artist.
While the kids got to experience the fun, bright colors, we also were able to discuss each type of emotion and how they could look so different based on each person’s own perspective.
