Today a reader, tomorrow a leader

It has been somewhat an easy transition for the older 3 of the 4 kids to read fluently from Kindergarten to 1st grade. However, for some reason Little Tiger has been having problems. Whether or not it is a confidence issue, Little Tiger has not been able to read any words that are bigger than 4-5 letters. She will slowly sound it out, but easily give up and start guessing. (This is somewhat normal!)

What started off as just someone giving us a box of books turned out to be a great idea. We left an open box of books in between the car seats, and during our car drives, the kids would just pull out a book and start reading.

Little Tiger started off just looking at the pictures, but eventually got bored enough in the car to start trying to sound out the words. With the help of Big Teddy, she eventually got used to this habit and her reading has been improving!

*Tip: change the levels of reading, so that there will be easy and hard books for the kids to read! When Little Tiger saw Big Teddy reading, it encouraged her to copy him and read more!
