SLOMOO Institute Review

We took the trek over to Los Angeles and visited our first slime museum! AKA the Sloomoo Institute.

The location is conveniently located right next to the Grove so you might want to spend a whole day or afternoon here! (Although, if you know anything about Los Angeles, getting TO the Grove is not convenient at all!)

Once you park and walk over, you must show your waivers and tickets before entering. As soon as you enter the building, you will be hit with a smell – a good smell! I would never imagine slime to smell good but in this place, it does! You’ll first watch a short introductory video explaining the institute and then you’re free to enter.

The kids really enjoyed these large “tubs” of different textured slime. I don’t really understand this, but somewhere between the ages of 4-8, it is the golden age of loving SLIME. (A parent’s worst nightmare.) Kids can just stand there for 20 minutes straight squeezing, lifting and exploring the slime forever. If you can just not think about the many hands that have been in these tubs, it’s actually quite nice to be able to sit back and have your child do something fun like this! (There are hand sanitizers everywhere, by the way!)

There are several different rooms that showcase different ways to enjoy slime. You can sit and watch as people “get” slimed on. (You need to pay extra for this!) They make it a spectacle with a dramatic countdown and the entire room is filled with squeals of delight as we watch strangers wearing ponchos and goggles get slimed.

There is a whole room with another activity that is another parent’s nightmare - kinetic sand! The kids also spent a good portion of their time simply playing with kinetic sand in a glow-in-the-dark room. Hey, since it’s not your living room… why not?

The path of the slime rooms ends with the ability to make your own slime.  You are able to pick the texture, color and the scent or your slime. I must admit I was impressed by the variety of scents you can pick. Anywhere from pear, to bubble gum to fresh laundry. Or you can be weird, like my child, and pick no scent at all!

The experience is extremely DIY and you can be as fast or slow as you want. Some said they were done within 45 minutes and some said they were there as long as 1.5 hours. Each person goes home with their own slime and personal tote bag. (I love a good quality tote bag!)

*Ticket prices vary from $30-60, depending on your date and should be very easy to reschedule!
